Please take a few minutes to read about our program and enrollment process. If you have any additional questions you can contact CVA by emailing cva@csd28j.org, speak to your current Centennial School Counselor, or call us at 503-762-3214.

Notice: Centennial District no longer offers Dual enrollment for 9-12th Grade. Students have to either be Full time CVA or they can take online classes at CHS in the Learning Lab Room-- as part of their on ground day. Please contact  your CHS Counselor for more information: CHS Academic Counselor Page

Requirements:

  • All students will need to check out a Centennial School District Chromebook to do all school work. If you already have one checked out it will transfer to CVA automatically.  If you do not already have one you will be given instructions on where and when to check one out.
  • Students will need to actively check their gmail in the google application or google web browser (not in student vue).
  • Parents need to actively check their email as well for communications with CVA teachers and staff.
  • Students/Families will need to have reliable internet. If cost is an issue you can check out these low cost options.
  • Students will have to complete a daily attendance form in addition to online school work – see Attendance below for more information.

The learning platform:

Edgenuity Logo

  • All lessons are taught through an online platform called Edgenuity. This is a self paced program that works well for students who are self driven or students who have alternative schedules. Students are able to work as fast as they want, enabling some students to graduate early or to make up missing credits.

Attendance:

(Updated 9/9/24)

In order to be counted as present the student must demonstrate two points of contact each school day.

  • The first point of contact: Mandatory Attendance of a Daily Zoom Advisory Meeting. If your schedule does not permit attendance of this daily class you can advocate with your Advisory Teacher for an alternative method of checking in.

  • The second point of contact: your student must have actively worked in Edgenuity for a minimum of 1 hour per school day. (Idle or down time does not count toward the 1 hour)

  • If the student does not meet the minimum requirement for 10 consecutive days, the student will be 10 day withdrawn.

    • If the student has an Interdistrict transfer and they get 10 day dropped they will not be able to re-enroll with CVA because this breaks the interdistrict transfer agreement/rules.

  • Our expectation is that students should be working 1 hour, per day, per class – to stay on track. (5 classes = 5 hours per day minimum)

Contact with Teachers/Advisors, Counselors, and CVA Staff:

  • During the trimester you will be able to connect with your Advisory Teacher during any school day. Centennial Virtual Academy teachers offer daily office hours and weekly Advisory lessons.
  • There is an option for students to communicate short messages to their Advisory teacher through the daily attendance form.
  • Parents and students can connect with their Advisory teacher via Zoom by appointment upon request.
  • You can call into the office for additional help at any time, but your first point of contact should always be your Advisory teacher.
  • Every Thursday there is an Advisory Class available to attend – High Schooler’s will earn a quarter credit for completing all year attendance.
    • Please note: District wide information is communicated during these meetings.
  • We also have online tutors available through Edgenuity.
  • You will be contacted from various CVA staff via email, text, or phone. Everyone is reaching out to try and make sure your student is successful and staying on track.
  • Parents: Make sure you are signed up for the Edgenuity progress reports, so you will be aware of how much progress your student is making on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. (contact the office if you are not receiving these)
  • Once your student is a Senior you will receive frequent contact from the Counselors and Advisory teacher. We work very hard to make sure your student is on track to walk at Graduation. Please take time to connect with staff.

If your student has an IEP:

  • Once the student is enrolled the Learning Specialist will send a welcome email that details their open zoom drop-in hours.
  • After enrollment the Learning Specialist will work with the Advisory teacher to make sure accommodations and modifications are put in place.
  • Going forward, the Learning Specialist will hold an annual IEP meeting.

In person events:

  • Students can attend community events at CHS. Please be sure to sign up an check your Parent Square account.
    •  This option does not require dual enrollment.
  • Students can participate in sports at CHS.
    • This option does not require dual enrollment but may require the coach to actively monitor progress in classes.
